Metal Free Tooth Fillings

A Safer, Healthier Choice for Toledo

These days, silver-mercury fillings are nearly obsolete. It turns out that metal can actually harm the teeth they were meant to protect.

Metal inside the tooth reacts to temperature changes just as metal outside the tooth would: it expands and contracts.

Think about how many times you drink coffee or tea, eat ice cream, or drink a cold glass of water. Every time a metal filling is exposed to these temperature fluxuations, it moves. That movement can weaken the tooth wall, eventually causing the tooth to fracture or break. It also allows bacteria to get in under the filling, causing decay that can't be detected.

To avoid any of these problems, our practice uses tooth-colored composite fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays to restore teeth and will be happy to assist you in replacing older, failing amalgam restorations. Today's porcelain restorations and composite resins create fillings that not only look natural but also are stronger than materials of the past.

These porcelain and composite materials are also biocompatible. They are entirely safe for use in your tooth, as well as safe for the environment if and when they need to be disposed.
