Toledo Oral Cancer Screenings

Critical Early Detection for Healthy Mouths

Oral cancer strikes an estimated 34,360 Americans each year. That's why we take oral cancer screening so seriously. Every patient receives an oral cancer screening once a year with VELscope technology.

As with most serious diseases, early detection of oral cancer is the key to a successful outcome. Unfortunately, the problem with oral cancer is that approximately 70 percent of the time it is not visible until it has reached an advanced stage. VELscope technology helps us to see abnormal tissue in the mouth, before it is plainly obvious.

As it passes over oral tissue, VELscope technology looks deep within the tissue to where oral cancer and its precursors begin. The VELscope System creates a reaction that can make unhealthy tissue easier to differentiate from healthy tissue, and it is particularly sensitive to the early signs of disease. VELscope will identify tissue changes at their earliest stage. Once abnormal tissue has been identified, we'll determine what the appropriate next steps are. We recommend that you have an oral cancer screening at least yearly.
